Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a new, FDA-approved procedure for repairing the aortic heart valve without removing the damaged valve.
With TAVR, a fully collapsible replacement valve is placed through a catheter. Compared to traditional valve replacement, which requires an open-heart procedure, TAVR is less invasive and avoids surgery to the chest bones. Patients typically spend less time in the hospital and recover quicker with this approach.
